Dear Friends,
I am working on a project on benchmarking two processes for a manufacturing firm:
1) Recruitment process
2) Training & Development process.
I have selected 10-15 manufacturing companies. Now, I have two ways to conduct this project - either by interviewing or by having the concerned HR personnel of the manufacturing companies fill out an open-ended questionnaire.
If someone has completed a similar project, please let me know what questions should be asked, what parameters need to be considered, or how I should proceed with the project.
Thank you.

Hi,
I need help. Actually, I am currently conducting a benchmarking analysis for a specific company, let's call it "XYZ." I have a good understanding of their recruitment and Training & Development processes. However, I am now looking to compare XYZ's processes with those of other companies.
I am unsure about the parameters on which I should base this comparison and what format the questionnaire should take. Could you provide guidance on what specific parameters I should consider and how I should structure the questionnaire for this benchmarking exercise?
Thank you for your assistance.

Dear Dudes,
Greetings to you, Professionals. I would like to specialize myself in the performance appraisal system and training and development areas. Currently, I am working in Dubai in the HR department as an HR coordinator. The company already has a performance appraisal system, but it clearly seems to lack scientific rigor. How can I formulate the most suitable performance appraisal system within the organization? I need complete practical guidelines.
Hope you can assist me :(
Thanks in advance :)

To answer your question about benchmarking training and development processes, I have a T&D benchmarking tool that I developed specifically for that purpose. The benchmarking tool can be found at www.businessperform.com/html/training_best_practice.html.
I also have an article on the training benchmarking tool at www.businessperform.com/articles/system_effectiveness.html that lists the critical training system processes and key performance indicators. I trust this gets you off to a good start and I wish you well with your benchmarking exercise.

If we take the systems approach, maybe the two subsystems you have selected are PA & T & D. Now, you need to identify the basic processes or functions of each, i.e., what is done under it. Once you have done that, you need to gather information from selected manufacturing firms, i.e., find answers to questions such as how they are doing it. Get some sort of ranking, maybe through a questionnaire, to find out which of the practices they think is most effective. Once that is done, maybe in the end, you will be able to isolate the benchmarking practices. Another simple way could be studying top-performing companies and how they do it. In case of clarifications, you can send in your views.
