The basic steps are:
With the employee, identify the performance shortfall.
Agree with the employee on what good performance looks like, in measurable terms.
Agree with the employee on a performance improvement plan. The plan should include measurable targets, dates by which targets will be reached, an employee development plan, and the resources required.
Provide ongoing employee coaching and regular progress reviews.
