What is the major difference or requirement of relieving letters and experience letters? Both letters typically mention the employee's start date, end date, and designation. Why do companies usually ask for both separate letters?
In most cases, a relieving letter is provided by an employer to certify an employee's resignation or termination from the company. It confirms the employee's last working day and states that all dues have been cleared. On the other hand, an experience letter is more detailed and provides a comprehensive overview of the employee's tenure, roles, responsibilities, and achievements during their employment.
Companies often request both documents to ensure a complete record of the employee's tenure and to validate their work experience. Relieving letters serve as a formal acknowledgment of the employee's departure, while experience letters showcase the skills and contributions made by the employee during their time with the company.

Hi Archana,
Your relieving letter indicates that you have been released from the company after handing over your work, and the company has accepted your resignation letter. The experience letter reflects your total experience with the company, from the start date to the end date, including the position you currently hold in the company.
Please correct me if I am mistaken.
Cheers

Yes. What Nidhi said is true. A relieving letter will formally announce that the resigned employee is relieved at the closing hours of business on a particular day. However, a Service Certificate will detail the various positions held during the employee's tenure. It will also explain the reason for relieving. Some companies have simplified the certificate by mentioning only the last position held.

Hi Archana,
I agree with Nidhi and Ramesh.
A relieving letter is one that confirms the acceptance of an employee's resignation and shows the clearance of full and final settlement. The resigned employee is relieved from the office at the closing hours of a particular day.
An Experience Letter shows the designation of the employee and the duration for which an employee worked with a particular organization. It also outlines the employee's areas of expertise during their tenure.
I hope the mentioned details are sufficient to clarify the difference between a Relieving and an Experience Letter.
