Whenever I read the following, I do so thro the tears welled in my eyes... If at all we endeavour to establish such an understanding, such an wonderful, such a true love amongst us, we can make a heaven

around us..., amongst us......

************************************************** ************************************************** *********************

Red roses were her favourites,

her name was also Rose.

And every year her husband sent them,

tied with pretty bows.

Each year he sent her roses,

and the note would always say,

"I love you even more this year,

than last year on this day.

My love for you will always grow,

with every passing year."

She knew this was the last time

that the roses would appear.

The year he died,

the roses were delivered to her door.

The card said, "Be my Valentine,"

like all the years before.

She thought, he ordered roses

in advance before this day.

Her loving husband did not know,

that he would pass away.

He always liked to do things early,

way before the time.

Then, if he got too busy,

everything would work out fine.

She trimmed the stems,

and placed them in a very special vase.

Then, sat the vase beside the portrait

of his smiling face.

She would sit for hours,

in her husband's favourite chair.

While staring at his picture,

and the roses sitting there.

A year went by,

and it was hard to live without her mate.

With loneliness and solitude,

that had become her fate.

.. 2..

Then, the very hour,

as on Valentines before,

The doorbell rang, and there were roses,

sitting by her door.

She brought the roses in,

and then just looked at them in shock.

Then, went to get the telephone,

to call the florist shop.

The owner answered, and she asked him,

if he would explain,

Why would someone do this to her,

causing her such pain?

"I know your husband passed away,

more than a year ago,"

The owner said, "I knew you'd call,

and you would want to know.

The flowers you received today,

were paid for in advance.

Your husband always planned ahead,

he left nothing to chance.

There is a standing order,

that I have on file down here,

And he has paid, well in advance,

you'll get them every year.

There also is another thing,

that I think you should know,

He wrote a special little card...

he did this years ago.

Then, should ever I find out

that he's no longer here,

That's the card...that should be sent,

to you the following year."

She thanked him and hung up the phone,

her tears now flowing hard.

Her fingers shaking,

as she slowly reached to get the card.

....3..

Inside the card, she saw

that he had written her a note.

Then, as she stared in total silence,

this is what he wrote...

"Hello my love,

I know it's been a year since

I've been gone,

I hope it hasn't been too hard

for you to overcome.

I know it must be lonely,

and the pain is very real.

For if it was the other way,

I know how I would feel.

The love we shared made everything

so beautiful in life.

I loved you more than words can say,

you were the perfect wife.

You were my friend and lover,

you fulfilled my every need.

I know it's only been a year,

but please try not to grieve.

I want you to be happy,

even when you shed your tears.

That is why the roses will

be sent to you for years.

When you get these roses,

think of all the happiness,

That we had together,

and how both of us were blessed.

I have always loved you

and I know I always will.

But, my love, you must go on,

you have some living still.

Please...try to find happiness,

while living out your days.

I know it is not easy,

but I hope you find some ways.

... 4

The roses will come every year,

and they will only stop,

When your door's not answered,

when the florist stops to knock.

He will come five times that day,

in case you have gone out.

But after his last visit,

he will know without a doubt,

To take the roses to the place,

where I've instructed him.

And place the roses where we are,

together once again.

Thanks for posting it. it was very touching. If we stop using our intellects all the time and allow the heart to become alive, these stories will add more life to us to live every available day more meaningfully. Then at the end we could say we have run the race well!!

Beautiful extract.
The real beauty is not in the fact that the flowers were ordered well in advance, even after he was no more, but in the little note that was delivered when the florist knew he had passed away ..... and the difference it made to Rose when she read it ...

Hey, it's a great story - am not sure if it true or not..really touches one's heart. :) ..can be make a great Hollywood movie with the cast of Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.. :D

A lovely book on similar lines i would recommend to all members - Love Story by Erich Segal..every time i read it i see a different shades of meaning n invariably swells tears.. :)

Would like to share my personal experience :-

One of my close friend's father met with a near fatal accident on Pune - Mumbai highway ten years ago. He was half paralysed & had lost his memory - his wife ( my friend's mother) nursed him back to life ( while the doctors had given up hope and were really surprized to witness this miracle) and she looked after him with a great dedication n love - to that he extent he started walking little bit..after years of physiotherapy done by his wife ( she is a doc) and spent endless time talking to him to make him feel important. Moreless he was confined to a wheelchair yet was able to talk little bit..

Just a week ago he passed away and i was consoling my dear friend..

I said " Anand"..your dad was really lucky to have your mom as a spouse..

i wonder if i was in the same situation or similar circumstances - would my wife have done the same ?..frankly i doubt it.. considering the values of today's generation who are more inclined to self n instant gratification.

I wonder whether true love in today's times exists ?

Nay, am optimistic and sure the above stories shall guide us notwithstanding today's flavour/success of the movie KANK :D

Thanks a lot prof. Lakshmnan, Archana, Jeroo and Rajat.

Professor, how very nicely you have reminded. Intelligence and love = meaninful life. Full of values.....

Rajat... Tks for sharing the moving true life experience. The term love and friendship now a days, has been so liberally and blindly used (misused) that we have to use terms like True Love and True Friendship. As Professor has said, if at all we could see through our hearts and communicate thru our hearts, we could make a different world together. Like you, Rajat, I too am an optimistic believer - in people, in People's values, in the power of love and friendship. Only thing is, these values lie deep in oneself and in the pandemonium of myriad pseudo-priorities, seldom one cares to practice these values. They need powerful reminders to shake them awake from their hibernation.

It is in this endeavour, many of us, keep sharing such thought provoking illustration. If this could bring a difference in a few, the purpose of posting this mail is solved.

Tks again for stimulating comments. With warm regards... Venkat

Hey ALL,
Yes we all can have the same kinda love from our spouses, but before demanding it we have to see, whether we are willing to provide the same to our spouses.
How many times we go and tell our partners our feelings?
Do we trust them?
DO we love them?
Can we do everything for them?
If the answer is yes, then for sure your spouse will have the same feeling for you.

like to add a comment here....true love is all about giving never expecting anything to come your way.....these champions of true love are rare in todays world where everything is weighed in terms of money..people who think such people are living in fools paradise are the ones who need to wake up and see how these people who truly loved their partners led their life...sad but true....
