I just wanted to know being a fresher having an HR major, what additional skills and courses one needs to master to keep up with today's competition in the HR field? What do recruiters look for while hiring an HR fresher?

The basic issue that all MBAs in HR main are facing is absence of knowledge in Labour laws. I have seen that many universities have dropped papers on Industrial relations and have included subjects which are not at all relevant in practical or professional career. Therefore, I would say that you should pursue a program in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations with labour law, Compensation management etc as subjects for study.
