Understanding Payslip Request for Retainer Contractors: Documentation and Proof of Income - CiteHR

Hello HR experts,

I worked in a retainer ship engagement for a company a while back, but they did not provide any payslips, only TDS certificates. Now, my future employer is requesting all previous employer documents, including payslips. Can I ask my old employer for payslips even though I worked as a direct contractor for them? If they are unable to provide payslips, would a bank statement suffice?

You are stating that you worked with a company on a retainer basis, so it is nonetheless a contract. A contractor would not be provided payslips by the company. You need to show your bank statement of such credits as proof.
