For different ESI benefits conditions are different. One can avail benefits in "Benefit period" if one has contributed the contribution in "Contribution period" From April 1 to September 30 and October 1 to March 31 are contribution and benefit periods. To enjoy sickness benefit one need to pay contribution for at least 90 days in corresponding contribution period. Again, there is limit to the benefits.
@Dilavar: If you can get ESIS i.e.IMO (Insurance Medical Officer) to refer you to private medical services you can claim the expenses incurred. In extreme emergency you may take services from private practitioner for shortest possible period and then you can apply for reimbursement which they may or may not consider. If you can justify, you can get reimbursement.
