HI,
YOU HAVE SELECTED A VERY GOOD SUBJECT FOR PHD,BUT THERE IS A SMALL PROBLEM, OD IS LIKE NEUROSURGERY,
IF YOU ARE VERY YOUNG THEN, PEOPLE WONT TAKE U VERY SERIOUSLY,IF YOU VENTURE INTO OD,BECAUSE MOST OF THE COMPANIES IN INDIA KNOW ONLY HRM AND NOT ABOUT HRD,OD COMES IN HRD.
AND MOST OF THE PEOPLE SPENT A HECK LOT OF TIME IN HRM,BEFORE VENTURING INTO HRD.AND PEOPLE WHO NOW IN TO HRD ARE SEASONED SENIOR MANAGERS AND VP/DIRECTOR HR OF VARIOUS COMPANIES,NOW ACTING AS CONSULTANT,SO U HAVE TO LOCK HORNS WITH TITANS,IF U PLAN TO VENTURE INTO OD,BE PREPARED

excellent thinking Supriya, what I can suggest further is instead saying OD you can be specific that HR strategic role in OD. This is now a day burning issue and HR needs clarity in terms of role as "Business Partner" in OD. good going...
You can start with reading different books on the subject and get knowledge of latest trend of OD. you may devide this in three mode situation of yesterday, today and future trend (requirement). Get all maximum data with you before you start with this project. beside this look for good companies where OD practices are initiated (in real sense)
Once you are ready with this then select one comany and apply this tool.
I hope this is good enough to start with.
All the best !

Ajay

in connection with Ajay's reply, I wish to add a few points...prepare a questionaire which covers all the essential points of your topic...distribute them to people in various types of industries and then go about assessing the HR role in OD pertaining to all fields in general.
Best wishes,

I would agree that OD is a very vast topic.... you would have to think of some specific area in OD eg OD interventions.... You could study the effectiveness of some particluar OD interventions being used in organizations. Also you would have to select the industry about which you would like to pursue your Ph D. I suggest that you go for an in-dpeth literature survey i.e. read lots of articles in this area. This would increase your knowledge in this area, and would help you specifically identify you area of interest. I would suggest that you choose a topic which is relevant in today's context and is going to be relevant for atleast some 4-5 years in future too. On the top of it all, one should always choose a topic which is of continuing interest.
Wish you all the best,
Rgds,
