Hello!
I am working as an IT recruiter with a well-known consultancy. I want to change my career path to an HR generalist role. I am curious if this transition is feasible and how I should go about making the shift. Additionally, I am interested in learning about consultancies that offer HR services to clients.

Hi,
Post your resume on job portals to receive a number of calls. Attend interviews with selected companies. Collect details about both the company and the job profile, then make a decision.
Try to target small companies so you can learn more. In small companies, there is usually only one person handling all HR activities.
Utilize your contacts instead of relying solely on consultants.
Wishing you all the best.

Hi Sudandira,
Thank you for your suggestion. I have already posted my profile on job portals, but the calls that I get are mostly related to recruitment. Since I have 4+ years of experience in recruitment, even small companies are slightly confused about considering me for HR positions. I am interested in getting into a small company. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Hello Jigna,
I am also in your position, but in terms of experience, I am junior to you but want to make my career shift from recruitment to core HR activities. If you are able to shift your career, also guide me in this regard. This would be a great help from your side.
Thanks and regards,

Hi,
I am interested in applying for any recruiter openings in an IT company. With over 4 years of experience in recruitment, I believe I am qualified for a Senior-level position. After gaining some insight into the company and its operations, I may consider transitioning to a generalist role within the same organization.
If you are genuinely interested, now might be the ideal time to make a shift. However, please note that typically only large or medium-sized companies tend to hire recruiters.

Hi,
I feel Sudandira is right, since I'm also in the same position. The difference is, I'm into Core HR for over 5 years now. I'm looking for a change, but I strongly feel that only through a referral can an HR professional get a job (based on my experience).

Grace

Hello!
Your point is correct, Grace. But in case the company does not have any current openings, sometimes the referral also does not work. Since you would be a fresher in that area, no one is ready to take that risk.
Anyways! In case you come across anything, please do let me know.
Regards,
Jigna.
