Understanding Employee Motivation
Employee motivation is a very complex subject, and its measurement is even more complex. I have previously provided responses on this topic twice. You can refer to my previous replies by clicking the following link: https://www.citehr.com/576428-motiva...ml#post2334479.
Employee motivation should not be equated with employee satisfaction. While surveys are available to measure the latter, they may not necessarily indicate the former. Moreover, a satisfied employee may not necessarily be a motivated one. Evidence of employee motivation can be demonstrated through various other metrics, some of which are outlined below:
a) Operational ratios such as human productivity and scrap generation
b) Ratios related to worker strikes and lockouts
c) Ratios linked to customer satisfaction and customer compliments
d) The interpersonal environment within the company
e) Employee turnover ratio
f) Employee suggestion ratio
A brief examination of these ratios can reveal whether an employee is motivated or not.
