Can a company terminate an employee who has been working with them for 10 years on a contract basis? The contract is renewed every 3 years. If terminated, what are the compensation possibilities? If not satisfied, can it be challenged in court?

If someone works as a contract employee for more than ten years, what benefits can they expect?

Please advice.

Anil

Dear Anil,

You need to furnish the relevant inputs before your query is attended to. For instance:
1. What type of company are you working for?
2. In which position are you working, and what is your designation or functions?
3. What is your monthly salary?
4. Have you had any breaks at the time of renewal of your contract?
5. Have they paid you any terminal benefits on completion of the contract?
6. Does your contract mention anything about the benefits on completion of the contract period?

Well, any employee can be terminated by following the defined/agreed employment terms and conditions as per the employment contract, and it doesn't matter whether he has been working with them for a few days, months, or years. Therefore, you must first read your most recent employment letter or contract offered by your employer.

Second, before discussing whether you can challenge the decision of your employer in court, it is essential for all of us to know the reasons stated by your employer in your termination letter. Hence, you must share the details of your termination.

Also, it would be helpful for people to have an idea of your current situation to provide appropriate suggestions. Until then, you cannot expect a valid response or the information you are seeking.
