There was a proposal to extend maternity leave from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. Has it become law? If a person has gone on leave from 1st August, will she be able to avail additional leave under this amendment? Could you please clarify.

As of now there is no any amendment Gazette Notification. We may follow the same existing policy

ESIC has already taken an initiative for the enhancement of Maternity leave and issued a notification on 6th October 2016. In my opinion, if ESIC makes this applicable from 6th November 2016, it will create pressure on the government to issue a notification in the public interest. Please wait until 6th November 2016, after which we may receive some notification.
