I have been associated with an engineering college since 2003, serving as a non-teaching faculty member. Every August, increments are allocated to those who maintain close relations with the Principal and the Head of the Department. Unfortunately, no clear criteria are established for this procedure. I am seeking guidance on whether there is any law to prevent such malpractice.
It is noteworthy that not a single letter of appreciation is provided to the recipients of these increments from the Administrative office.
Disparity in Application of Laws
I would like to highlight the disparity in the application of laws for teaching and non-teaching faculty. They are implementing various laws such as the UGC, Pune University Act, and Maharashtra State Act differently for each group.

There is no law for increments and appraisal systems; it totally depends on the management as well as the work performance of the employee. So legally, you can't fight for the increment, but you can fight for the wages to be defined as per their profiles in the Minimum Wages Act as per the states.

Just out of curiosity, if there are no criteria and no appreciation letter given, how do you know who has received the increment and who is close to the HOD and Principal?
College Increment Policy
It would be a policy of the college to give increments to some in August and others in some other month. First, check the policy of the college. Also, if you feel that someone who is profile-wise equivalent to you is receiving a higher salary, speak with the management and get the issue sorted. There is no law as to how the increment should be given.

Dear Ashutosh Thakre,
Just out of curiosity, if there are no criteria and no appreciation letter given, how do you know who has received the increment and who is close to the HOD and Principal? It could be a policy of the college to give an increment to some in August and others in a different month. First, check the policy of the college. Also, if you feel that someone with a profile equivalent to yours is receiving a higher salary, speak with the management to get the issue sorted. There is no law dictating how increments should be given.
