Dear Friends
I have done my MBA correspondence in HR .As I have done a part-time I did not get any exposure to core Hr activities & apart from that I have work experience of recruitment .Now I am trying to move from recruitment to other areas (i.e core Hr activities), but I have only less things known in core Hr activities & I don’t want to join in HR Practical Trainings as I think it is a waste of time as well as money……
Please suggest me what should I do to get a full knowledge & exposure to Core Hr activities

Hi,

For that, you should refer to many HR-related books, as well as there are many blogs and sites where you can learn and explore things. If you have any queries, they will be replied to once you post them in the discussion. You will even get expert advice.

The best way to gain practical knowledge in any field is to work in that field. Therefore, try to secure a HR generalist profile in an organization at the earliest opportunity. Additionally, it is important to update your knowledge by reading relevant books, labor laws, and blogs as Mr. Jeevaratnam suggested. This will help you to connect theory with practice.

Dear A,

When you work in the field, the field will teach you the lessons that you have to learn and the skills that are required to tackle issues case by case. In the meanwhile, please go through the Labor Acts such as the Industrial Dispute Act, Contract Labor Act, PF Act, Factories Act, Minimum Wages Act, and Payment of Wages Act. Browse through case laws and try to get a real picture of workers working in small and medium-sized enterprises, apart from discussing with HR professionals.

All the best, SPKr

Dear "Anonymous",

HR, apart from the statutory and other provisions (e.g., Acts, organization policies, etc.) that must be followed, entails a lot of common sense and judicious interpretation of non-statutory rules. Be flexible, especially since each human mind is different! HR is meant to be enjoyed, and like a pilot whose each landing is always different, your approach will be different in each situation. Don't make HR a "Hostile Relations" - a prevailing issue in many Human Resources Departments today.

Dear A,

Good day. HR is not a one-day match. It is a daily drama. Every face is masked. Don't try to unmask; instead, try to visualize the face behind it. That is the game. Try to understand the rules of the game and be earnest, honest, and practical in your approach. Only then will you succeed. What Rajusiachen has quoted is absolutely true.

With wishes,

SPKr
