Hi Seniors, I have 5 years of experience in BPOs, but I don't have any experience in the core HR field. I have worked with Aon Hewitt for one year, where I was involved in outsourced HR-related activities for a Canadian client. I have an MBA in HR and aspire to kickstart my career as an HR executive. I am currently receiving job offers as a recruiter in BPOs. Should I commence my HR career as a recruiter? How can I acquire experience in other HR functions? What are the growth prospects if I start as a recruiter? Please advise me on how to initiate my career in this field.

If anyone has a list of consultancies in Delhi that provide HR job opportunities, please assist me.

Thank you.

You are an MBA-HR and have some HR-related experience and understanding of HR functions from your total of 5 years of experience. Can you please share more about your knowledge and experience with other HR functions and your current responsibilities?

In your query, you expressed a desire to pursue Core HR, but at the same time, you are asking about Recruitment and career growth. This evidently reflects your situation and concern about your career these days, which is understandable. However, one thing you must realize is that you still need to establish yourself in HR and work on Career Planning before moving further. You have already spent a significant amount of time in your career, which also matters. Therefore, please make yourself clear about what you want to do or how you want to move ahead in your career.

Second, I don't think there is any need to explain "Recruitment" or what it is all about, as it is a part/function of HRD. I feel you are well aware of it and responsible for it in your current work profile. Further to tell you, in a company, much of the recruiting is done by employees from within, but Core HR covers all aspects like PD, PA, Recruitment, Benefits, Compensation, and Policies.

To pursue Core HR, you need to improve your knowledge of every HR function, which is important to enroll yourself for the position you want. This is certainly going to be a bit difficult for you because you have already spent 5 years but have yet to run on the path you wished for. You may see many changes in life further, so you also have to be ready for them.

Understanding the Differences Between Recruitment and Core HR

Now, it is really important to know the differences between these two profiles/functions (Recruitment and Core HR) for your better understanding so that you can decide where to go or what to pursue.

I would suggest you have a look at the following resources and hope you find them helpful:
