I'm residing in Gujarat. If my basic salary is Rs. 15,000 per month plus allowances of Rs. 1,000, totaling Rs. 16,000, what would be my deductions? If EPF, professional tax, and ESIC are deducted, what amounts of PF, professional tax, and ESIC would be deducted from it?
Kindly reply.

Thanks for replying, but I didn't get it properly. I just understood that ESI is not applicable to me, but I didn't understand about EPF & P.T.
Also, considering my basic salary is Rs. 14000 + allowances Rs. 1000 = Gross Rs. 16000, could you please clarify the amounts of EPF & P.T.?

Hi,
Since your basic salary is 15000, there will be no ESI deducted from your salary. As your total salary is above 10000, regarding EPF, it would be 12.5% on 6500 i.e. basic.

As your total salary is above 10,000, there will be no ESI deduction. Regarding EPF, your basic will be taken as 6,500 and your PF contribution will be 12.5% on 6,500, i.e., Rs. 780. As for PT, it will be 200 as per Gujarat slabs (12,001 and above).

Hi,
As per your salary slab:
Basic - 15000
Allowance - 1000
Total Gross salary - 16000
PF Deduction - 12% of Basic (15000) = 1800 (It depends on the company policy regarding PF deduction, typically at 12%)
Professional tax = 200 (As per the Gujarat state legislation, for salaries exceeding 12000/-, the maximum limit is Rs 200)
Net in Hand = (16000 - 1800 - 200) = Rs 14000 per month
Since the basic salary is above 10000, you are not subject to ESI deduction.
For your reference, please check the professional tax slabs for Gujarat state:
- 3000-5999 === 20
- 6000-8999 === 80
- 9000-11999 == 150
- 12000 and above == 200

Hello,
You have to be specific in your question. First, check whether your company has PF, or you have a previous PF account. Then, check with your company what percentage of the gross is treated as basic pay.
PT would be $200 every month and $300 in the month of February. ESI would not be applicable to your gross.
The only thing is the PF part. Please do specify the query asked.

As your total salary is above 10000, you will be exempted from ESI deduction. As far as EPF is concerned, your basic will be taken maximum up to 6500 for your PF deduction, and it will be 12% on Rs. 6500, i.e., the maximum employee contribution will be Rs. 780.00.

Please find the answers to your queries:
First of all, you are not eligible for the deduction of ESI because your basic + DA is above the coverage of Basic + DA, i.e., Rs. 10,000/- provided under the Act. So, in view of this, you fall into the category of an exempted employee under the ESI Act.
For PF deduction, I want to know whether you were employed somewhere before this job and were a member of PF. If you were a member of PF earlier, then your PF deduction shall be at the rate of 12% on basic, i.e., Rs. 15,000/-. If this is your first job, then you may be placed under the category of Exempted employees.
Now, in this situation, I would like to clarify here that as per the EPF Act, the qualifying amount for deduction is Rs. 6,500/-, and the deduction of PF on Rs. 6,500 is a must. The rest depends on your employer, whether as per policy, they used to deduct PF on the whole basic or up to Rs. 6,500/-.
For the rest of PT, etc., I don't have any idea.

Sanjay
