Hi,

Competency mapping is an attempt to map the competencies (the skills, knowledge, attitudes) of the employees to the desired/required competencies. You can first identify the desired competencies for the particular position, then try to see how close the actual competencies of the employees are to the desired ones. You can further try to bridge the gaps through training.

Hi Shweta Challa,

This is Praveen. I am a student of MBA, and right now, I am working on competency mapping in an FMCG company. Could you please tell me how to identify the different skills required for different positions in an organization? I am a bit confused about this as I have conducted one-on-one interactions with every employee and gathered their current responsibilities. However, I am unsure about the specific skills required for each position. How can I determine this?

Please guide me; I would be thankful to you.

Competency mapping is a tool used to map the competencies of an individual and the requirements that an individual should possess to sustain a particular job. It also identifies the competencies that need to be developed for promotion and career planning. There are various useful websites available for this purpose:

I believe you will find these sites helpful.

Hi Sai,

Thank you very much for the information. The article seems to be quite interesting. Could you help me with finding some information on repertory grid used as an effective tool in competency profiling and mapping?
