Hi All,
I am an HR Professional and looking at help with Designing Sabbatical policy for my organisation.
We are a Solutions company with a size of 500 employees in Bangalore.Can anyone share the criteria or any guidelines.

Dear Maya,

In addition to what have been contributed by Sriram, please find my suggestions for you to consider:
  • Consider the duration on the basis of the purpose selected. If your firm wants the employees to seek avenues in research, a two years sabbatical wont work. If the firm wants to groom entrepreneurs a minimum sabbatical for two years is a must.
  • The firm needs to plan on the benefits depending on the outcome, it wishes to generate. It may start from research support to incubation centers for entrepreneurial venture.
  • Define the eligibility depending on the outcome. Suppose, the firm plans to develop the next level channel partners through the employees. It may require the employees to handle the responsibilities at a scale to gain the business intelligence required to deliver it.
  • Identify a probable career path once the employee, resumes. This should include the added advantage gained through the sabbatical.
