My actual last working day is falling on Sunday which HR refused to accept and asked me to resign a day earlier or later i.e Saturday or Monday. But I am a rotational shift employee where Sunday is my working day and all the HR people reside in the Company township which is adjacent to our manufacturing unit. Now, If I leave one day early then I will miss out on a 1-day salary and will 1 day short on notice period as well.

So, my query is that on my last day of working while serving notice period, can I work in the first half and avail of second-half day leave (casual leave or sick leave) Would this count as a full day working at the office? Half-day working and half-day leave or full day leave on last working day.

Please suggest the solutions. I might sound silly but I need to be clear on this.
Thanks in advance.

Dear Jahanjeb Khan,

I recommend you serve for a full day on Monday. Why do you wish to take a half-day leave? What is the tearing hurry? The objective is to be relieved smoothly from the company. For a very small thing, you should not face trouble.

In fact, if your notice period completes on Sunday, then you should be relieved on Saturday itself. If HR tells you to work on Monday, then it is wrong. After six days of work, you are eligible to get a weekly off. Therefore, when you serve from Monday to Saturday, automatically you are eligible for weekly off on Sunday and that it should be paid one. However, for the sake of a day, do not argue with HR. This is not a time to argue with anyone. If your HR has told you to work on Monday also to complete your notice period, then shows his/her superficialness. Better not to reason with such persons!

Thanks,

Thanks for the prompt reply Mr. Divekar.

The reason for seeking half day duty and half day casual or earned leave (which ever applicable) is that I have to travel via flight at 1400 hrs the same day which is also the closing hours of my shift duty. Next morning is my joining in the new Organisation.

why worry so much about 1 days salary when you have a new job waiting
Just leave on Saturday instead of causing so much chaos

Do you want to risk missing your flight due to a slight delay in the office for any reason?
