I am planning to start a vegetable and fruit mart. It's like a supermarket. I am planning to operate between 9 am to 9 pm or 7 am to 9 pm. How should I employ staff and what should be the timings of employees? Can I hire them for 9 to 9. If I operate from 7 am to 9 pm, how should I manage timings. The store will be located in a town where it will be difficult for part-time employees.

The vegetable & fruits mart will be covered under the State Shops & Establishments Act and accordingly you will have to decide the shift operations. While you may require lesser staff in the morning, the footfalls are likely to be much more in the 2nd half of the day. You will have plan your deployment based on the legal provisions

Dear colleague,
This means you want operations to run for 12 hours.
Besides you will need preparatory/ wind up time before start and after closing of work. May be model of D'Mart/ Big bazar or likes of them can help you depending your size of business.
Legally 8 hour of work plus 1/2 an hour break and weekly paid off and paid leaves is mandatory. So you may have to follow staggered weekly off system for which you have to have reliever during w/o and statutory leave period or work overtime within limits of law.
Your number of employees need to be adequate enough considering these requirements.
