Hi All, I am working in a hospital and the problem we are facing is that our 5-6 nursing staff are going on maternity leave together is there any protocol where we can tell our staff that they should plan their maternity so that hospital don't have to face manpower shortage.

Hi Sunita Roy,
As per maternity benefit act, all working women are entitled to avail maternity leaves who have completed 80 Days in the 12 months immediately preceding the date of her expected delivery. There is no as such provisioning to be deferred from this even in case there is a majority on the same leave already proceeded.
Here comes the role of human resources department into light who have the duty to maintain the employee count bases on gender ratio and further drilled down to specific parameters of selection and fulfilling the vacancies. However the law doesn't allow such practices of selection on any biased bases but the company has to run the show also by finding various practical means.
So I would recommend to have a balance of employee count and accordingly strike through since beginning which you can start form right now as well and plan for future. Offering temporary job for the time being till the fixed employee is on leave is an alternative. There is no way you can ask female employee to plan their maternity.

Without Prejudice
Hello,
How mature the staff is to whom you want to communicate? However, it could be treated as unconstitutional.
Therefore, it is advisable to manage with your own what Walia ji suggested or mix of Headcount.
