Hello everyone,

Happy New Year to one and all. I am new to this group and have been following the discussions on this site for a while now. Well, I need a little help from you people. I have been working in a logistics company for almost 1.8 years and now I am looking for a change. Recently, I gave an interview at an MNC and I got rejected. Although I did answer all the questions, but received a negative reply. Now, I am looking forward to giving an interview in an IT company. Since I am from a non-IT background, I need tips to get through this one. What preparation should I do?

Hi,

Just quick thoughts...

1. Why do you want to shift to IT?
2. What are your long-term objectives?
3. What's your area of interest?
4. How do you think your experience in the logistics company helps this organization?

You need to be absolutely clear on what you want and what you want to do henceforth. Also, do some homework on:

- The organization you are applying for
- The position you are applying for
- Relate your experience to the job responsibilities mentioned in the position that you are applying for

Hope this could be of some help to you, like a tip of the iceberg. Good luck.

Hi Shivani,

Thank you for the information. I believe that the procedures followed in the IT industry are much more professional compared to other industries. Although my experience in the logistics industry may not be directly relevant, HR is a field that is not necessarily industry-specific. I am confident that my entire HR experience will benefit me in the future as well.

What are your thoughts on that?

Regards,
Shivani :)

Hi Shivani,

I agree with you, but in my experience, I have seen people from IT companies who actually ask these questions and, in fact, spend most of their time grilling on these.

If you need anything specific, do let me know. If I can, I will provide some inputs. Please send me your profile. If any of my clients have a requirement, I can refer you.

Regards,
Shyam

Hi Shyam,

I am a little perplexed about those questions. I want to join the IT industry because I believe my learning curve would be high there. In my current company, my growth is stagnant, so I am looking for a change. Are you a consultant? Please let me know about your email ID. I am looking for job openings in Delhi NCR and Bangalore.

Looking forward to your reply.

Shivani

Hi! Check whether he knows any technical abilities or not, if no, he is of no use to the company. Regards, Jennifer Isaac

Whether he knows how to do programming, testing, or any bug solving depends on the profile he is getting. Technical abilities are generally assessed by the team lead or project lead.
