Dear Mr. Ajmal,
For your kind information, IGNOU does not provide a BBA course. They offer an MBA for those who are professionally qualified, postgraduate, or have a minimum of three years of post-qualification working experience in an executive cadre.
If you require any additional information about IGNOU, please feel free to contact me.

Hi Rekha,
In my knowledge, there is no formal ranking of correspondence colleges/universities, nor do we have it for regular universities.
Still, some of the top universities that are known for regular courses (cannot be given by rank order as correspondence courses have still not been ranked, but all of them have equally good course curriculum) include:
- Aligarh Muslim University
- Anna University, Chennai
- Bangalore University, Karnataka
- Cochin University of Science And Technology
- University of Delhi
- Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra
- Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University
- Jamia Hamdard University
- Himachal Pradesh University
- Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University
- Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)
- Jawaharlal Nehru University
- Osmania University, Hyderabad
- ICFAI University, Hyderabad
- University of Mumbai
- Manipal University
- National Law School of India University
- University of Pune
- Pondicherry University
- Punjab University, Chandigarh
- University of Roorkee, Uttaranchal
- Tamil Nadu Universities
- University of Calicut
- Kerala University
- MG University
Could not confirm whether all of them conduct BBA, so you need to check with their respective websites.
And yes, Jamia Hamdard is also considered to be one of the top universities.
Some of the private universities (i.e., ICFAI, etc.) also have placement cells for their correspondence students. How effective? I cannot comment.

Dear Mirza,
Thank you for your valuable feedback. I recently found out that ICFAI University is not UGC approved. Upon contacting the UGC, I was informed that ICFAI is not authorized to open branch offices and has not received approval for this. It seems ICFAI may take at least 4-7 years to obtain UGC approval. I thought this information would be helpful for you.

I won't say how useful UGC approval is for a job in the private sector.
As for ICFAI - Hyderabad and ICFAI - Mumbai, both have been listed in the top 10 and top 25 business schools of India by "Business Today" - [June 2005-edition]. So, we can be sure about their course content and teaching methods, at least for MBA. If they maintain the same quality at the BBA level, then UGC recognition or no recognition may not make much of a difference, at least for the private sector.
This is my personal view; others may differ.

Hi Ajmal,
I'm in my last year of Masters in HR from VNSGU, Surat. I am working on a project on performance appraisal in the unorganized sector, specifically focusing on the diamond industry and will have to implement it as well.
I am looking for information on the Diamond Industry in Gujarat, particularly interested in a brief history and background. Do you have any leads?

Hi Junaid
I don't know how much this is going to help you, but check out this article...
Gujarat
Gujarat accounts for 80% of the diamonds processed in India. 55% of the global diamond cutting and polishing happens in Surat. Gujarat also houses some the primary gold markets (in and around Rajkot and Ahmedabad). Gujarat is estimated to export Rs 25000 crores (USD 5 billion) worth cut and polished diamonds. This accounts to nine out of 10 diamonds mounted on jewellery, all over the world, being processed in Surat. The gems and jewellery industry is also the second largest employer after agriculture in the State, generating 1 million jobs, besides being a non polluting industry.
The diamond industry of the country is primarily concentrated in Surat, contributing to 80% of the diamonds processed in India. 90% of the contribution is from 10,000 units in and around Surat which has emerged as the nerve center of this industry. Over 3000 units are spread over Ahmedabad, Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Navsari and Rajkot. While this has lead to geographic concentration of the processing centers, skill sets for processing are available across the state and contribute a major part of the specialized migrant labour into these districts.
A huge domestic market, coupled with India's competent position in the global market has opened a host of opportunities in the following sectors, such as:
The domestic market for both, gemstones and diamonds, has reached a level of maturity where industry can build upon the successes of the past and leverage the skill sets with state of the art technology to offer superiorly crafted jewellery. The jewellery industry would be able to absorb the processed gemstones, thus retaining the increase in value of the end product.

Junaid, if you would find the trade association of the diomand polishers of Surat, you would get most of the information required by you.. Further try checking the Government of Gujarat Website for attracting investments and increasing exports... [maybe Vibrant Gujarat website] That might give you some more information that might be of some help

Dear Sir,
I was searching through all websites for BBA from IGNOU when I saw your post. Can you give me some guidance as to which graduate course I should take up? I am a diploma holder in electronics ('97). Please note I have completed 10+3. Which graduate courses does IGNOU offer for me? I was actively looking for BBA from IGNOU.
Thank you in advance.

Viv

Hi, Rekha,
I am doing research for colleges that offer BBA distance learning, and I found hardly any universities that offer this program. I discovered that Amity School/University offers BBA distance learning and they claim to be recognized by UGC. ICFAI didn't seem like an extremely good study option to me due to the reviews I have heard from people around me. I may be wrong. However, after studying abroad for a few years, I am hesitant to return to the Indian education system. Will it provide me with what I am looking for? Will I be satisfied with the education system?
Are the distance education programs efficiently delivered, or will I need extra tuition? I have never engaged in correspondence education before. Also, would it be better to pursue distance learning from UK or USA universities compared to Indian universities? Do you think opting for UK and USA distance education would be a good educational decision?
I have many questions and hope you can assist me with this. Thank you.
Radhika

Dear Friends,
I'm planning to pursue my graduation in BBA/BMS through correspondence/distance education. I have inquired and found that there is no correspondence BMS program available from Mumbai University, only a regular one. Therefore, my next option is to pursue BBA from IGNOU. IGNOU offers a course named "BBA in Retailing."
Could you please guide me on the above course and the option I have selected? Furthermore, can I take CET/CAT exams (after completing the above degree) to gain admission to an MBA program (regular/part-time/correspondence) from a university other than Mumbai or any other university?
Upon completing the degree from IGNOU:
1. What is the importance of the course, i.e., BBA in retailing?
2. Can I take the CET/CAT exam to gain admission to an MBA program? Will I face any issues by completing a degree from IGNOU when seeking admission to an MBA program at another university?
3. Please, friends, assist me soon!
Your solution will be greatly appreciated!
