1) How long was/is the break?
2) What was/is the age of the person in question?
3) What is the age of the person after the break?

My personal experience is that you can surely make a very good career post a break from work (though you might need to compromise to some extent on salary partly, but which is fine if you have a small baby and can manage both work and home).
Yes, but surely women get torn between work, pregnancy, or delivery, which is very natural. It's very important post-break how you put together your resume. If your field permits you to do some freelancing, you can mention that on your resume, justifying the same in your resume. This break most often occurs in cases where a woman is pregnant or has a small baby. I personally think this is very important in life rather than worrying about a career, which you can always pursue post-delivery. :)

It also depends on whether she has maintained a keen interest and stayed in regular touch with some colleagues who must have shared with her the happenings in the office. It also depends on how much time she has spent reading and analyzing the economics of the particular business or area.
