Dear All,

My Managing Director is on deputation from the Public Sector Organization to my company. He is retiring this month after joining us in August 2007. He is a thorough administrator and a genuine person.

If anyone can suggest a farewell speech, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and Regards,
Pari

Dear Pari,

Your MD is a thorough administrator and a genuine person. What do you mean by "genuine person"? Is there any ungenuine person? A person is a person. But administrators, while dealing with "genuine" problems, are dictators. A genuine administrator abides by rules and regulations and does not have sympathy with anyone. Hence, they are not liked by all. I think you are in his/her good books. So, convey your regards in the following words:

"My MD is a good administrator and a nice person. We will certainly feel his absence with heavy hearts."

Say something about his behavior towards subordinates, his creativeness, and administration. Share some words from his personal life, and that is all.

May the Almighty God bless him with a long and happy retired life.

Dear Pari,

You posted a good thread, but let's get clear about the farewell speech. We should keep certain things in mind while forming a farewell speech:

1) The speech should be on behalf of the department.
2) The speech should contain what the person has done for your department and the organization as a whole.
3) It should also include instances (if any) when he has personally guided you.
4) Talk numbers: If the person has helped the organization attain a significant position in the market, mention it, keeping in mind the statistics.
5) Speak in an affirmative way and use positive body language.
6) Include emotional moments in your speech.
7) Make people realize that you are going to lose a gem of a person, even if you might not feel that way.
8) Mention his achievements within the organization and how they have helped.
9) Finally, conclude by asking the Managing Director to give a short speech which would make your work simpler.
10) Lastly, don't forget to present him with a memento or a bouquet to make him feel appreciated.

I hope this might help us in forming the farewell speech.
