Hello friends/members,

I'm here again to ask you a question, so please bear with me. 😄 Yesterday, I got an interview call from a consultancy for a voice process. I said no to them because I seriously want to make my career in the HR field. The person who was on the line replied back that companies are planning for cost-cutting due to the recession and are not planning to add employees in their HR departments. So, don't miss this opportunity, etc., etc.

So, I wanted to know, is that really true? Are we (job seekers, MBA in HR) going to be jobless until the recession ends? I've been searching for a job in the HR field for the past 5 months. Whenever I go for interviews for the post of HR, I give my 100% in the interviews. However, they tell me that they'll let me know, and after that, I keep waiting for their replies. Is this because of the recession?

I'm waiting for your valuable suggestions/advice. Thank you so much for your valuable time. 😊

Hi Phardeep,

Your words suggest that you are attending interviews for HR. What does this mean? Are there job openings for HR in the market? The issue seems to be that in previous interviews, you have not been putting in your full effort in the competitive market to secure a job. Try to improve a little bit, and you will reap the rewards. Additionally, the role of HR consultancies is to persuade candidates, even if the candidate is not initially interested. They are simply doing their job. If you are genuinely interested, give it a try without any deviation.

ALL THE BEST

Before, people would switch their jobs to seek job satisfaction. However, nowadays, people are more conscious about job security being a top priority.

In this recession, people are hesitant to switch jobs due to the fear that if cost-cutting occurs in a new organization, they might be targeted first as newcomers.

When people refrain from changing jobs, there will be fewer new openings. Some organizations seek experienced professionals to handle critical situations. When new openings arise, there is intense competition.

As competition intensifies, the chances of easily securing a job decrease. Therefore, one must exert maximum effort, showcasing high skills to succeed.

The moral of the story is that in this competitive job market, individuals must focus on improving job knowledge, presentation skills, maintaining a positive attitude, confidence levels, and negotiation skills.

Additionally, it's essential not to solely attribute difficulties to the recession. Instead, view this as an opportunity to compete.

Dear Phardeep,

When did you complete your MBA? Most companies state in their job postings that they require 0-2 years of experience. However, the reality is that they often prefer candidates with some level of experience, whether in HR or in a corporate setting.

Let's not attribute the difficulty in finding a job solely to the recession; instead, I would suggest that if you receive an offer elsewhere, consider taking it.

Dear Phardeep,

We are getting the impression of depression from your words. Let's be confident and endeavor to search more rigorously and religiously. One should keep on trying persistently, but with different ways.

It's time to do some self-improvement and grab the opportunity that is coming your way.

Companies require immensely sophisticated people with good experience in HR. Perhaps they invite applications from freshers but always hire people with maximum experience.

Consultancy is not a bad option for starting a business; later, you can step ahead towards the ladder.

Don't blame anything for not getting a job, and don't make excuses for yourself either; instead, make persistent efforts.

We wish you luck for your future endeavors. :)

Rach :-P

Hi all,

I have come to know that a person from the Business Development field can easily transition into HR, and experience in the said field is highly valued during recruitment for HR roles. Is that true? What aspects of the Business Development profile are advantageous for HR positions?

I am currently aiming to enter the field of HR and am pursuing an MBA for this purpose. My current job is similar to a Business Development profile.

Dear Pradeep,

Even I am facing the same problem with a few consultancies. I am working in Consultancy, and I know how hard it is to get a job. Moreover, these companies call for 0-2 years of experience but do not shortlist freshers. My suggestion is to try for Bank Jobs as they also have HR departments.

Dear Phardeep,

It is true that jobs in HR due to the recession are a bit scarce, but things are not bleak for the deserving ones. If you come across an opening with a recruitment firm, there is no harm in pursuing it and joining them for the time being. It is beneficial to work with a recruitment firm to gain exposure to various profiles in the industry. Remember, sourcing and recruitment are significant aspects of any HR professional's profile. It is advisable to work and patiently wait for the recession to pass.
