Dear All,

We are a software company in Bangalore. April 14, 2009, being "Ambedkar Jayanthi" and now recognized as a National Festival - is it mandatory for all companies to declare a holiday on that day? As per our holiday list shared with our employees at the beginning of 2009, we have not declared a holiday on April 14, 2009.

Request the HR personnel from software companies (with your company name) to let me know whether you have declared a holiday on April 14, 2009? I just want to know how many companies have a holiday.

Thanks and regards,

Well, I am looking for the similar answer. We haven't declared Ambedkar Jayanti as a holiday as well, considering that it's something related to just Uttar Pradesh.

I found here that 14th is also Baisakhi. Someone, please update on this.

hi As Ambedkar Jayanthi is not a National Holiday like Gandhi Jayanthi so it is not in the list of compulsory holiday. Decision of declaring a Holiday is purely companies decision. thanks padmaja

Dear Navya,

As per my understanding, only 4 days have been declared as national holidays. Ambedkar Jayanti has been declared as a holiday by some states, which is not mandatory if you have already complied with the total number of holidays to be declared.
