Cost depends upon material, energy, and time consumed. Any waste reduction of material, energy, and time carried out by the people will help to reduce the cost. Make people aware of these costs, and they, in return, will help you with cost reduction.

It is about common sense. Don't print unless necessary because it affects trees and the environment. Avoid making unnecessary use of AC as it depletes the ozone layer. Save water, energy, and everyone should know about this for a better future of our country.

Thank you for your attention to these important matters.

And your point, doing all of the above will not only save cost, but it will also save Mother Nature and our planet Earth. So please save water, energy, and don't waste paper. My humble request is to have automatic lighting systems that switch off automatically when no one is present, etc.

Thank you.

Hi Ruchi,

Firstly, we have to understand the reason behind cost-cutting. Is this due to a slump in the economy, or is it a general exercise to review policies to bring about necessary changes while keeping in mind reducing overall costs?

If the first is the answer, then let me suggest you take a look at the budget related to administration, facilities, HR, and finance. Review each one to identify which is more costly and why. Once you have completed this analysis, you may find your answer.

If you are working in a factory, you can consider the following:

- Lean Manufacturing
- Just in Time
- Working 24x7
- Multi-Machine Operations
- Reduction in Overtime
- Multiskilling
- 5S Practices (if you do this alone, it ensures significant savings)
- Inventory Management
- 7 Muda's of Waste
- Quality/Rejection

Hi,

As per my side, please turn off the PCs' lights and ACs when they are not in use. Don't put them in standby mode as that also consumes some energy. If everyone thinks positively, then we can save lots of energy.

Thank you

Some of the best cost-cutting practices would be:

1. Minimize telephone expenses: Opt for a telephone facility on a sharing basis, like 1:3/4.
2. Remind employees to switch off systems/monitors and electrical points during coffee breaks, lunch breaks, or when leaving the office.
3. Encourage the use of the official email source for all official communications (wherever it can be accommodated); this would reduce paper consumption.
4. Propose a vehicle pool instead of engaging a vehicle for 1-2 persons.
5. Employees should not waste food.

Hi,

At our Google Campus, we use unused papers to make letter pads for rough work that typically come from the Xerox and fax machines. Damaged CD/DVDs and pens are repurposed for craftwork, while some IT equipment is utilized to train school children as part of a CSR initiative.

Thank you.
