Dear Seniors,

Greetings for the day!

I have posted after a long time, but I need your valuable and prompt suggestion this time as well. I have received an offer for the position of Executive-HR & Admin from an RPO. I have been selected through the interview, and now I am confused about whether I should accept the offer or not.

The reasons behind my confusion are:

1. This job is on a contractual basis for 9 months and will automatically end after 9 months unless the company chooses to extend it.
2. It has been mentioned in my offer letter that my posting will be at our client's site (name of the company). During my posting at the client's place, I may be stationed or posted by us to any other location of our client as necessary for the implementation of the client's project.
3. You shall be paid an all-inclusive annual salary of Rs. 2,50,000. The detailed breakup of your salary is as follows:
Basic - 6250
HRA - 3125
Medical Reimbursement - 1250
Conveyance - 800
Consolidated Allowance - 8658
Total - 20,083
PF - 750
CTC - 20,833

Please tell me how much my in-hand salary will be. I have provided all the information stated in my offer letter; now, please advise me on whether I should join this company or not. It is very urgent for me.

Please clarify if I will be an employee of the RPO that sent me this offer letter or the company where this RPO is posting me, which is the client of this RPO because I was interviewed by the client of this RPO. Maybe this is not as big an issue as I am thinking, but I am not familiar with this type of hiring process.

I expect your prompt reply on this. Waiting for your valuable suggestions.

Archana

To answer your question, some more details about your current job profile, salary, experience, etc., are required. If you are a fresher, go ahead and join.

Your take-home salary would be around 19,300 Rs. (if you submit a medical bill of Rs. 1250/month).

All the best..!!!

As Manoj rightly said, Medical Reimbursement is something that requires bills to be submitted. If you fail to submit those bills, then your take-home pay would be somewhere around 18k.

If you are working for a reputable company, I don't see any reason for you to quit the job for a contract offer. One of my friends joined Wipro on a contract basis, but despite his hard work, he was not given a permanent role and was asked to leave the company at the end of the contract period.

This is just my suggestion; it is you who has to decide. Think twice before making decisions. It is simply a matter of having faith in yourself. Wishing you luck.

Hi,

Referring to your query, I think you should not join if you are not out of a job. If you are a fresher, go ahead, but if you are already working, then do give it a second thought as it is contractual-based and not a permanent job. As far as the salary is concerned, I believe that if you are new to this field, you should pay attention to the profile rather than the salary. Make your benchmarks first and then ask for hikes. You would be on the rolls of RPO as the offer letter is from them.

Hope this clears all.

I too agree with Shwetha. Do not join if you are settled with the current company. Check with RPO what would happen after the contract period. If they give you a satisfactory answer like you will be on our roles or we will place you in some other company, then you can think of joining.

Thank you to all of you for your valuable replies.

This is further to my earlier message that I am working as an Executive - Back Office & Admin with a broking company, having 2 years of experience and earning 16500/-.

Shweta, if I will be on the rolls of RPO, but my offer letter has the client's name where I have to join. (A is the RPO who offered me to join B company)

I am confused!

As I mentioned, I am not a fresher. The company where I am working is not a reputed concern because of its management, and I am also not satisfied with my current job.

Now, what should I do? Should I ask the RPO as Chaitra suggested?

Archana

You can actually get it clarified by RPO itself, as Chitra has suggested. I agree with that. If it is mentioned that you have to join Company B, then I don't think you will be on the rolls. Other than that, in my opinion, just for a hike of 3000/-, you should not switch to a contract job. It could be a hasty decision and can later hamper your growth. You should rather seek a good opening other than this. Rest is your take on it. I am not demoralizing you. Please take the suggestion in a positive way.

Do contact in case you are still in dilemma.

Hi Archana,

I will go with Shweta! First thing, you will be under the payroll of an RPO company and not the client. They may say that after this contract period, you will still be under their payroll... But the situation may change later on. If they don't secure a project in the future, they may ask you to leave. So, it's better to reject this offer and try for something else that adds value to your professional growth.

Is it possible that a branded company can engage in this type of deceit with us? The company where I am working is not that great, but the offer I received is from a well-known brand. I am feeling very confused. I asked the RPO, and they informed me that for the first 9 months, I will be in a contractual position. If I perform well during this period, I will be employed directly by the client company (company B), which is associated with this RPO. However, if things do not go as planned, then I will remain an employee of the RPO. They have provided assurances, but I am still feeling uncertain. Please help me out.

Hello Archana,

I would suggest you wait for a better opportunity. Only for a hike of 3500 rs, do not switch the job, as it is on a contractual basis. I would like to suggest the same thing that Shweta and Veena have suggested to you. If you are not satisfied with the current profile, remember that everybody has to pass through the same path, and the only solution for this is patience. You will definitely get the desired profile.

Hi Archana,

For starters, your in-hand salary will be Rs. 18,833 (20,083 - 1250 in medical bills) if you don't submit medical bills. If you do, it will be Rs. 20,083. As for joining the RPO and being on their rolls or not, you will not be on the rolls of either company. They have very clearly mentioned that you will be a contract employee.

Lastly, whether you should join them or not, I would advise you against it. With the current recession in the US markets, all outsourcing companies are turning to such contracts to ensure they don't have to carry an employee. I understand your current job is not with a reputed concern, but still, it is a steady job, with no chances of your being removed in the near future. With the new offer, it is a guarantee that you will be out of a job in 9 months.

So, stick to your present job and look for better permanent opportunities.

Hi,

I would suggest you to stay with your current job. In all means, the present job is worth it. The only difference here is $3,000, and you are taking a chance for a contract job. You can take a chance if it is for a regular job, but even then, $3,000 is not an amount these days to take a chance on. As you mentioned that you are not a fresher, be calm and stay tuned for better openings. I hope you will find the right job.

Hi buddy,

Go ahead, what are you waiting for? For an HR fresher, it is a good package. The take-home is around $19000 to $20000 per month. Just take this offer and wait for 9 months to see what is happening. If you are sure you can get better openings than this, are you ready to wait and find out? If so, decide on your own.

Best wishes,
Bindhya Vinod

Dear Archana,

I suggest you go with whatever Sweta and Veena are saying. In these kinds of jobs, even though they may indicate that they will consider you based on your performance, that may not be the case. They might inform you that due to the lack of a current position, they are unable to confirm your role.

My advice to you would be to continue with your current job and actively search for a more fulfilling and rewarding opportunity. Avoid making any hasty decisions as they could adversely affect your career.

You mentioned that you are unsatisfied with your current job. Dear, such phases are common, and you must persevere through them. Keep honing your skills, and you will undoubtedly come across a better opportunity.

All the best!

Hi Archana,

I too agree with Shweta. "Just for a hike of 3000/-, you should not switch to a contract job." Have faith and stay with your current company. Since you have 2 years of experience, a better offer will come your way.

Don't worry, stay positive, and keep smiling.

Thanks,
Manoj

Dear Archana,

It's pretty useless to accept this offer. The hike is around 18-20%, which is not very huge. You have 2 years of work experience and a long way to go in your professional life; so accepting a contractual job won't be a good choice. It may have a poor impact on your resume in the future.

So, Archana, I believe initially the profile is important rather than the brand (especially in a contractual basis).

Be happy with your present job. A good opportunity will definitely come your way.

All the best! Joyee

Hi Archana,

Your take-home salary is Rs. 18,583/-.

I personally feel that you should not join this company now as it is going to be a total mess at the client site. You will be on the payroll of the RPO and not the client.

I hope I have answered all your queries.

Dear Archana,

As per my suggestion, if it's a good company and will help your career, you can join. It will add to your experience, and it's a good opportunity for you to learn more. Normally, on a contract basis, if they perform well, they will be taken on a permanent basis. Even if you are on a contract basis, you can gain some experience. But if it's a very good concern, you can join, otherwise don't.

Hi Archana,

Basic - 6250 (in hand)
HRA - 3125 (in hand)
Medical Reimbursement - 1250 (only if you submit bills, otherwise paid at end of year)
Conveyance - 800 (in hand)
Consolidated - 8658 (in hand)
PF - 750 + 750 (deduction)

So, your in-hand will be (6250 + 3125 + 800 + 8658 = 15833 - 750 (employee contribution to PF) - 500 (income tax) = 14583. At the end of the year or whenever you claim reimbursement, you will get 1250 x 9 = 11250 (which is taxable). For a nine-month contract, you are not eligible for PF deductions, and there is no need for medical reimbursement. You should get all of this in hand, and then your in-hand will be 17333.

Cheers,
Buland

It is not about suggestions or taking advice. It's all about your focus point and your way of looking at things. Dear user,

I would also suggest that you not opt for a contractual job. I have seen many of my friends never secure permanent positions, despite putting in their best effort. Instead, I recommend studying and analyzing the areas of human resources that top standard companies are focusing on—such as training & development, employee engagement, etc. Begin studying in those specific areas.

You can conduct this analysis through job portals, and, of course, websites like CiteHR can be a big help in this regard. Don't be swayed by the short-lived joys of life; instead, prepare yourself for something greater in the future.

Best of luck :)

Hi Archana,

Before considering this offer, think about it. Let me explain to you what exactly it will entail.

RPO has offered you a job, so you will be an employee of RPO. You will be working at the client's location for the project, but this may not benefit your future career. At that time, you are considered to be working for a consultancy, not a corporation. After 9 months, there is no guarantee that they will hire you as a permanent employee. You might be aware of what Wipro does. They hire on a contract basis for three months, and if they decide to hire permanently, they will have to provide a salary hike. However, if they keep renewing the contract for years, they can continue paying the same salary for that position.

If you are not content with your current company, then by all means, proceed. But carefully consider this – working on a contract basis through RPO's payroll may not add much value. Nonetheless, you will gain valuable experience.
