Let me initiate my first discussion of the month with a topic which might appear as a self-reflection.

Intentionally or unintentionally, we try to be like someone. We wish to have the intellect of someone; the body/figure/look of someone; the smile of someone; the wealth of someone; the mannerisms of someone; and so on. Hence, I would like to request you to share with us:

1) Who is your role model?
2) What do you like about your role model?
3) What type of role model are you?
4) What do you think youngsters or your kids should learn from you?

Hi,

Interesting thread. Let me introduce myself first. I'm Vidya, working as a Team Lead - Recruitment.

My Role Model is Rahul Dravid.

2) What do you like about your role model? His strength of mind, practicality, and ability to face issues with a clear objective in view.

3) What type of role model are you? I'm not sure how to classify myself; perhaps you could give me a few examples. Personally, I believe in encouraging people to express themselves.

4) What do you think youngsters or your kids should learn from you? Probably to be honest and work straightforwardly. First, visualize the result that you would like to obtain and then work towards it sincerely.

It is really sad and hurting...

Sometimes, when I scan through some discussion topics on CiteHR, it hurts to see what I see. People like to share and ask for free information. There are few people who even have the courage to post 500+ pages of e-books. People seek free policies and forms. Interestingly enough, they like to discuss subjects that are emotional in nature (issues related to when an HR person was insulted, fired, ignored, hurt, etc.). These things might earn some sympathy for you and make you the center of attraction for a moment, but I wonder if this is what most people are looking for. In the name of HELP, we are killing creativity and innovation and encouraging a culture of corruption and copy-paste.

I did ask questions such as “qualities in HR to make him/her CEO”; about Role-Models (who is your role model and what type of role model you are) and many more, but I understand that people are so busy in copy-paste that they do not have time for development, being creative, and innovative.

This is where we are, and I am not sure what type of professional impact we are trying to create in this domain and in the corporate world for HR as a profession and we as HR professionals.

Think about it.
