They are recorded and they can be retrieved. How long they keep it, I dont know. They will not and can not without proper authority as it can be considered as intrusion. Siva

I don't think so, recording conversations by telecom operators is against the law. No operator does that. However, they keep log sheets of your outgoing and incoming call details such as duration, time, SMS, etc.

Hi Jay,
For your information, telecom operators do keep records of conversations with anyone. However, they do not disclose this information to anyone unless it is required by the police authorities.
Hope that helps you.

I don't think they will be recording all incoming and outgoing calls. The only thing they have is a system log in which they can note down call duration, location, timings, STD code, etc. You can also check the bills, and even if they do record calls, they will keep the data for the purpose of billing. After the bills are released, they delete the records.

I think that our conversation on cell phones is not recorded unless there is a demand for the same, and such a demand must be legal. For criminal or other legal processes, I feel the calls may be recorded.

Dear friend,
No tele-conversation is recorded in any telephone exchange. The conversations are recorded only on request. This request is not just based on an ordinary request. The request should have been approved by the competent authority. Recording the conversation between two individuals is an offense as per the Indian Telegraph Act. However, the conversation will be recorded if a direction is received from the Government of India. So you need not to bother whether all your conversations will be recorded. In case your landline has a parallel connection, the possibility of recording your conversation without your knowledge is not completely ruled out. Finally, why do you worry about your conversation being recorded when you do not indulge in antisocial activities or anything which is against the interest of anybody or hurting others?
