Is the Pandemic-Era Remote Work Honeymoon Coming to an End? Many Indian companies seem to think so, as they roll out stricter return-to-office mandates. Major IT employers like Wipro and TCS have begun enforcing in-office attendance'Wipro now requires employees to be in the office at least three days a week (even deducting leave for missed days), and TCS has signaled a push back to a full five-day office routine. Amazon India has likewise scrapped its work-from-home option for corporate staff.

These moves mark a sharp U-turn from the flexibility that employees enjoyed during the pandemic. Yet many workers aren’t on board with a forced office return. Employees continue to value the flexibility, family time, and reduced commute stress that remote work offered. In a February 2024 LinkedIn poll of 463 employees who’d been given RTO orders, 40% said they saw no noticeable benefit to returning to the office. Some professionals have even considered switching jobs or locations rather than relocate back to metro offices.
