Hi all,
One of my employees is experiencing a service overlapping issue in EPF.
Background of the Issue
In COMPANY 1, he worked from 2019 to 29-Jun-2021. Subsequently, he attempted to secure a job in another company without formally resigning from COMPANY 1. He then proceeded to join COMPANY 2 but only worked there for one month before returning to COMPANY 1. Currently, he is still employed at COMPANY 1 but is facing an overlapping issue.
Employment Details
The following details outline the dates of joining and leaving for each company:
COMPANY 2:
- Date of Joining (DOJ): 02-Jul-21
- Date of Leaving (DOL): 12-Aug-21
COMPANY 1:
- Date of Joining (DOJ): 01-Nov-19
- Date of Leaving (DOL): ----------
A solution is needed to address this situation.

Hi, this is totally wrong on the employee's behalf. Without resigning, he has joined somewhere else and thought that no one would know, but Aadhaar is linked in UAN, and all information is easily available on the portal.
I have faced a similar situation.
If the Date of Exit (DOE) is not submitted in the portal for Company 1, then there should not be a problem while withdrawing his PF at the time of resignation.
But validate the details by clicking on the service history in the UAN portal and also check in case you apply for PF advance which company reflects there. In case Company 2 is reflected, then he will have to take up this case with the employer in Company 2.
Hope this helps.

EPF Service Overlapping Issue
Hi, in this case, a new ID number is generated for him, and he will face significant challenges.
Now, his default EPF ID is in Company 2's account. Whatever amount is deposited by Company 1 will not show in Company 1's EPF passbook. He won't be able to withdraw any loan from EPF either.
Short-Term Technical Solution
The only short-term technical solution he has is to request Company 1 HR to update the Date of Exit (DOE) of the first account to 01.07.2021 and generate a new code for him. Then transfer all his previous code amounts (1 and 2) to the third code. The third code will be his active code for the future, and he can withdraw loans or PF as needed.
Long-Term Implications
However, this is only a short-term solution. The same overlapping problem may arise during pension withdrawal or retirement. In such cases, Company 1 has to submit a request letter to the EPF office, and the pension withdrawal process needs to be done manually. The online pension withdrawal process will reject his case.
Thanks
