I have been working in an MNC for the past 3 years. I also moonlighted for 2 months in another MNC. Now, my current company found out about the moonlighting through EPFO. As a result, I decided to resign before they could terminate me. Will I receive the necessary documents from my current employer?

Document Entitlement After Resignation

Which documents? Has the company retained your educational certificates? Do you mean those as documents? If yes, you will get them. But if by documents you mean a certificate to establish your service with the company, you are entitled to that as well. However, the wording in that certificate may not be exactly as you desire. It can include sentences like, "resigned following moonlighting was vouched." In a background verification, they can very well state this as an incident or reason for resignation. Sorry to say that this may follow you throughout your career.

The Consequences of Moonlighting

When many people remain unemployed, why do individuals like you, who have decent employment, engage in moonlighting?

Hi, it depends on the employer. I hope the "document" you are referring to is a proper relieving cum experience certificate. It is purely at the discretion of the employer. They might either relieve you properly or mention dual employment in your relieving letter. One thing is sure, they will not consider you for re-employment or might disclose this during future background verification.

Hi Raji,

Have you received your documents from your first employer now?

You have joined a new company and haven't faced any issues with your dual employment history?

I am also in the same situation and not sure what to do now. Could you please advise if HRs would accept it if we approach them with a dual employment history?

Thanks
