Understanding the Need for a Slavery Policy

Your post is quite brief. Could you please share your designation and the nature of the industry you are involved in? Additionally, why do you feel the need to have a policy on slavery? Whose idea was this? Slavery is banned in India, so how can you have a policy that is prohibited by the Constitution of India?

Slavery and the Indian Constitution

India is a free and democratic country. The Constitution of India includes anti-slavery provisions. Although these measures are not explicitly mentioned, regulations such as fixing minimum wages and maximum hours of work are in place to prevent slavery. There are many other provisions as well.

Cultural Considerations in Organizations

If you are from a business organization or NGO, please note that while there may not be a culture of slavery per se in your company, there could be a culture of sycophancy, which is also detrimental to the company. Another aspect to consider is whether people work long hours unnecessarily. Forcing people to work long hours and expecting them to take calls during off-duty hours borders on slavery.

In a modern business organization, direct slavery may not exist, but the personality of a few bosses or the company's culture may promote a servile atmosphere. Some bosses may dictate their views without considering suggestions or dissenting views, leading to a form of mental slavery.

These are my observations. Without context, it is challenging to provide specific suggestions.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
