I can explain the practice which we follow in our organization (MNC).
Compensatory-off policy
The Compensatory-off must be availed by the employees within 30 days. They cannot avail of CO after the expiry of 30 days.
For example, an employee who has worked on Jan 1, 2022 (a holiday) and is eligible for CO will have to avail it on or before Feb 1, 2022.
This cycle continues irrespective of the calendar year.
For example, an employee who has worked on December 25, 2021 (a holiday) and is eligible for CO will have to avail it on or before Jan 25, 2022.
Hope this helps.

Compensatory Time Off in Factories
If you are a factory, compensatory time off should be provided within 3 days before or after the day on which the employee worked on their weekly off or a public holiday that they were entitled to.
Carrying Forward Compensatory Time Off
In certain cases, with the approval of the Factory Inspector, the compensatory time off can be carried forward, but for a period not exceeding 2 months. This is granted in cases of emergency work or high workload situations where the factory cannot be shut down on a holiday or weekly off.
Please note that despite receiving compensatory time off, the employee is entitled to double the regular rate for overtime for the day on which they have worked on their day off or a public holiday.
