A proprietorship firm, the nature of the business is contract work. The person is a citizen of Bihar. He has taken GST registration in Bihar, but they are working in Karnataka now. The contractor is asking for the PF & ESI Certificate. Where do they need to register for PF & ESI? In Karnataka or in Bihar?
Please guide me.

Obtaining PF/ESI code numbers is not limited by territorial jurisdiction. One may obtain PF and ESI codes reflecting the particulars of the current contract in the State of Karnataka. However, it would be advisable for him to attempt to obtain the PF/ESI code numbers for his firm from the regional office in his area in Bihar. This may create conveniences for him later.
