Dear Sirs/Madams,

I have 15 years of work experience as an Accounts Assistant with advanced IT skills. I have exposure to payroll accounting and policies, HRMS, software and web development environments, fund management, cost verification, liaison, and passenger dispatch management during flood rescue operations, and various admin-related tasks.

I have completed courses such as BCA, MA in Sociology (with UGC NET qualification), and PG Diploma in Labour Law and Administrative Law while being employed.

Aspiring Career in HR Management

I aspire to pursue a career in HR management. Which course should I enroll in through distance learning considering I am currently employed? Can I secure a position as an HR manager with my current qualifications and experience?

Thank you all in advance. Your guidance will be immensely valuable.

Dear Haren, this is in addition to what Bijay has said. Yes, one should choose a job that is aligned with one's qualifications. However, this is not a dogma as such. I recommend you choose any job that maintains your stature.

Utilizing Defense Experience in Civilian Jobs

You are an ex-defense personnel. Your job in defense must have taught you a structured way of thinking/working or an organized way of thinking/working. Additionally, ex-defense personnel are adaptable too. Use these qualities to get into departments like customer service, purchasing, etc. There is no need to wait for a job in HR as such.

Opportunities in Ludhiana

If you are from Ludhiana, you may join as a factory manager in some factory as well. Remove the blinkers that you are a non-technical personnel. I have seen ex-defense personnel entering into unknown fields and doing exceptionally well. This is because of their learning attitude and positive thinking. You too will be no exception.

All the best from an ex-Air Force person.

Dear Haren Tripathi, you are holding a PG Diploma in Labour Law and Administrative Law. You have work experience in payroll accounting and policies, HRMS, software and web development environments, fund management, cost verification, liaison, etc. You are ex-Air Force.

Career opportunities in factory administration

Your background can be suited to factory administration perfectly. As suggested by Dinesh Divekar, you can explore an opportunity for the position of Factory Manager or HR Manager in a manufacturing unit. Make your vision clear and march towards achieving it. You can pursue an ISTD diploma.

ISTD Diploma

The ISTD diploma is a distance learning programme of 18 months duration, but it is recognised by the Government of India for the training of trainers in the country and is designed to meet today’s Training/HRD challenges. At present, a large number of ISTD Diploma holders are occupying senior positions in the field of Training & Development/Human Resource Development in various Central Government Departments, Public and Private organisations. You can add value to yourself by pursuing this.

Another option is to go for an LLB.

All the best.

Your technical background could help you in the HR field if you try out a course in HR-related ERP. Now, most companies, especially those migrating from SAP HANA to the S/4 HANA platform, are investing in major digital transformation initiatives based on HR analytics and AI.
