Can we use the same UAN number that has been claimed? For example, the claim amount of the old PF account has already been claimed using its respective UAN number. In this case, can we use the same old UAN number for the newly generated PF number? Please advise.

Once withdrawn the UAN of the PF account will get deactivated and therefore, if you join an establishment you will be allotted a new UAN. Madhu T K

You can use the same UAN number for a newly joined organization and a new PF number. In fact, you're supposed to use only one UAN number; that's the objective behind the UAN implementation. It is termed as Universal Account Number, which means that no matter how many organizations you change, the UAN has to be the same for all, and your KYC details should match all the time.

Understanding UAN and PF Account Usage
You mean to say that once you have claimed the amount or withdrew the PF accumulations and settled the PF account, and then join another establishment, the same UAN should be used? My understanding is that UAN (yes, it is Universal) is linked to an active PF member ID. Once the account is fully withdrawn, the member ceases to be a member. If you join a company, you will be a new member and not an existing member. As such, a new PF member ID and UAN will be generated. Please confirm.

Dear Madhu,
Yes, even if you've withdrawn your PF, your UAN number will remain the same in your new establishment. It should be consistent throughout your entire career, regardless of how many organizations you change. Your PF number will only change with each change of organization, but your UAN number will remain the same. Similarly, in your UAN login details, you'll be able to view all your service details with your different PF numbers.

Dear Mr. Manish,
Could you please upload any document from PF authorities to substantiate your statement that if a member is allotted UAN once, it is valid on a permanent basis even after the withdrawal of his PF amount? The document would be very useful for everyone.

Dear N. Nataraajhan,
Please go through the following link to learn all about UAN and its benefits. It is mentioned that the UAN needs to be unique for each organization.

It is true that the UAN allotted is for the lifetime of a member. However, when my friend joined a new company after withdrawing his earlier PF amount, the PF portal indicated that the PF account was already settled for the earlier UAN. There is no clear information in the attachment you sent regarding whether the member can still use the same UAN after withdrawing the PF amount. Please attempt to provide explicit information from the PF authorities confirming that the member must continue using the same UAN even after withdrawing the PF amount.

There is no doubt or dispute that UAN will not change with changes in employment, and the same UAN will be applicable throughout the service. However, I still doubt the applicability once you have made a full withdrawal and closed the PF account. Even in the case of employees who collect a scheme certificate and then, after a gap, join another establishment, the same UAN can be used. But is that applicable once you are not a member of PF?

Dear Madhu and N. Nataraajhan, I am not sure why your friend was facing problems as I have withdrawn PF two times after getting my UAN. This is my third job after the implementation of UAN, and my UAN number has been the same since day one. I haven't faced any problems or issues with withdrawal or linking it with a new PF number. I think the problem may arise if there is a mismatch with KYC documents or DOL with previous establishments. If everything is in order, then I suppose you will not face any problems. I have even transferred PF directly for many of our employees. Such issues were happening in the earlier days of UAN, but nowadays, it is almost settled. I have an FAQ for UAN, which was shared by the PF office. I am providing a link to it: http://www.epfindia.com/site_docs/PD...ber-Ver1.1.pdf
