It's a great pleasure to be a part of the Cite HR family. I am an HR professional with over 2.5 years of experience in HR. Currently, I am working in an International Institute in the Placement department. I joined this institute 5 months ago, and prior to this, I worked for 2 years in a small IT support institute.

I have now been offered a position in the HR department of a Software company where my responsibilities will include PF, Insurance, Admin, Induction, and some recruitment processes. My current role is primarily focused on placements. I am facing a dilemma regarding whether I should prioritize salary or profile. The salary offered by the new company is lower than what I currently receive.

I seek your guidance on what decision to make. Should I prioritize Salary or Profile? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

The way to go about it is to introspect. Did I accept my existing employment for "salary"? If yes, why am I looking at something that offers a lower salary? If no, what do I want in my career? Am I prepared to pay a "price" of sorts? From what you write, you are yet to visualize the career.

While at your age, money IS important, and you have got it, it is the overall competence in your chosen professional career that will ensure continuous growth, durable success, and comprehensive satisfaction of being engaged in a worthwhile pursuit. It is not advisable to decide on impulse. Such decisions as you have raised require deep thought, soul-searching, and determination. One would really like to see your deeper thoughts on these subjects of career and life, and only thereafter would one venture advice!

Since you will be getting an opportunity to have wider coverage in terms of work responsibility, I feel you MUST change. However, please try and stick to your job and do not be a rolling stone. The initial years are very important and would provide you with stability.

You must not compare salary first; job satisfaction is important. If you are satisfied with your current job, then consider staying there. However, if you find more satisfaction or interest in a new field, pursue that path as job satisfaction is more important.
