Hi Sir/Madam, I have attended an interview at a private bank and have been selected. I received the offer letter and the appointment letter. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and did not disclose my pregnancy during the interview. Now, I have received the appointment letter to join on 8th May 2017. Is it possible to extend my joining date until July 17th, 2017? Alternatively, I could join work and continue until June 2nd, 2017, after which I would need to take leave until July 17th, 2017. I have requested the HR team to extend my joining date, but they have informed me that there is no possibility to do so. Please suggest what I should do next.

Thank you.

Employer-Employee Relationship and Maternity Disclosure

Once you join the company, the employer-employee relationship officially begins. At that point, you may declare your pregnancy to the management and request leave, although you will not be entitled to any maternity benefits.

Company's Discretion on Extending Joining Date

The vital question is whether the company will extend the joining date, which is entirely at the discretion of the management. Since you did not disclose your pregnancy during the interview, it depends on your personal skills and the management's willingness to extend the joining date.

Thank you for your suggestion, sir. However, they mention that the probation period is 6 months. Once I join now, it means they won't give any leave in between. Sir, is it possible to terminate my appointment letter because of my pregnancy?

Even if you are not entitled to maternity benefit, your service cannot be terminated if you are pregnant.

Hi sir,

Today I was talking with HR, and they informed me that we are rejecting your offer letter and appointment letter due to your maternity leave. We require an immediate employee. You should have disclosed this issue during the interview. This is your responsibility, and we cannot assist you. Is there any possibility of still getting the job?
