I was working in a private firm in Pune for over a year and then transferred to Bangalore within the same firm. After a couple of years, I left the company to take up a job abroad. It's been more than five years since I quit the job. Initially, when I spoke to HR regarding the PF amount, they asked me to sign and send/visit the Pune branch with documents, which eventually never happened. All these years, I never visited Pune as Bangalore is my hometown, and I come down to Bangalore once a year for a two-week vacation. I want to withdraw the PF amount now. Can someone suggest how I can obtain the amount? Should I contact my HR again? It's been five years, and I am sure there have been many changes in the organization. Is there any way to get the amount without involving the company? Please let me know.

In all cases, you have to go to EPFO Pune through your employer. From July 2014 onwards, every employee has to have a UAN number for their EPF/EPS account. Visit your EPFO office with Form 19 and 10C duly countersigned by the employer; the balance will be taken care of by EPFO Pune.
