Hi everyone, I've worked in a company for 5 months and due to my dad's ill health, I left the company without serving the notice period. Now, after 4 months, I got an offer from an MNC. They are asking me for my UAN. The problem is that I really don't know whether I have a UAN or not. I also don't know my PF account number because whenever I tried to contact my HR from the previous company, he just gave lame excuses and did not reveal my PF account number.

Seeking Advice on UAN and PF Account Issues

Is it advisable to tell my new employer that I don't have a UAN and to please generate a new one? Will having 2 UANs cause any problems? I want to emphasize that I am unsure whether I have a UAN or not. Kindly help me!

No issue. you can crate multiple UAN . Now it is the matter of 5 months contribution, you can transfer it later ,when you got your pf number .

Thank you for your reply. However, if my previous employer has already created a UAN (which I am unaware of), and the new employer also generates a new UAN, will I be in a difficult situation? Would this cause any problems? I do not wish to claim my previous PF funds, nor do I want to include the five months of experience with my previous employer. Should I proceed as a fresher with the new employer? Will the new employer find out about my past employment?

I am eagerly awaiting your response.

How to Retrieve Your UAN Number

Go through the salary slip; you will find the UAN number. You should have these details before searching for the UAN number:

- PF number – You can get it from the salary slip.
- Date of birth – As recorded by the EPFO. Sometimes it may differ.
- Name – As in the PF records.
- Mobile number – You should possess the mobile as the PIN would be sent to the given number.

Step #1 - Visit The UAN Members e-Sewa Portal

Go to the portal uanmembers.epfoservices.in. Click on ‘Know your UAN status.’

Step #2 - Fill The PF Account Details

Fill in the PF number details in the given columns. Do you have any problem filling in the EPF number? Go through this post. After filling in the PF number, click on check status.

Hi @Priyanka3889,

Thank you, ma'am, for your kind reply. However, my payslip also doesn't have any PF number mentioned. Actually, it's a small firm, and many of my previous colleagues are also facing the same problem. The HR is giving lame excuses when asked for PF account number.

It appears that your employer has not deposited PF and may not have generated the UAN. Tell your new employer that your previous company is refusing to provide the PF number, so you don't know whether they ever paid the PF or created a number. Be upfront. No HR manager will penalize you if the previous company defaulted.
