Leave Policy Update for IT Company

I am working in an IT company as a Manager HR in Lucknow. As I have recently joined this new company, I need to update some policies. I would like to know how many leaves can be availed by the employees in the company. While I have reviewed the UP Shop & Commercial Establishment Act 1961, it mentions 15 leaves as PL/EL, 10 leaves as Casual, and 10 as Sick leave. Could anybody please provide me with the exact hierarchy of leave management so that I can update our company policies accordingly?

Thank you.

Warm Regards,
Azra Abdi

Understanding Leave Policies and Standards

The scale and standards of service conditions prescribed in any establishment-related labour legislation are always general and minimal. They are intended as measures for minimum compliance to avoid penal action. Going above the set standards is at the discretion of the individual employer. This decision can take into account various considerations such as the stress and strain involved in work, the number of weekly working days, the higher standards set by progressive employers in the industry, relative cost factors of different kinds of leave, and the demands, whether hidden or outspoken, from the employees in this regard.

However, to answer the last part of your post, I am sorry, but I am not able to understand what you mean by "hierarchy of leave management."

Dear Umakanthan,

For your prompt response,

The last part of my post was regarding the leaves - how many leaves are mandatory to be availed by the employees of an IT firm? The existing leave types - PL/EL, SL, and CL - allotted to the employees in my current company are not actually under the UP Shops & Commercial Establishment Act 1961. I am looking for a minimum leave policy that the employees should be entitled to.

Thanks & Regards,

Azra

Establishments belonging to IT and ITES fall within the purview of State Shops and Establishment Acts. Therefore, the number of various leaves prescribed under the UP Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1961, is the statutory minimum to be granted to the employees.

Azar, You have already see the number of leaves specified under the shop and establishment act. Those are the minimum leaves you have to give.
