Sir,

I am running an HR company that is currently proprietary. Since we are inducting highly qualified personnel for positions such as General Manager and Manager, we are wondering if the CEO position can be filled by a qualified individual.

There is no rule as such for the appointment of a CEO. Nevertheless, for a proprietary concern, the General Manager itself is a high-level post. If you wish to appoint a CEO, then you may convert it into a Private Limited Company.

In most proprietary concerns, the Proprietor runs a one-man show. He himself is the CEO. Therefore, the pertinent question that arises is what is the staff strength in your company?

More than the designation, what matters is whether the authority is commensurate with the designation. Please note that bushes look good in the flower pots kept in the backyard or garden. Please do not try to grow trees in those flower pots!

Thanks,
