Dear Divyagowda,

You have mentioned that you want to pursue the highest degree in HR. However, you have neither mentioned your qualifications nor your specific interests within the field of HR. Typically, those pursuing doctoral studies tend to focus on their passionate areas within the discipline.

My suggestion would be that as you gain experience, you should also begin to cultivate your own areas of interest within HR. This exploration will help you identify a specific field that you can academically pursue.

Best regards,
V. Raghunathan

I may suggest 'Employees Dissatisfaction Differential' in the India Corporate World as a subject for Ph D in HR.

You may like to work on the Scope of Talent Management, Its Need, and Approach to Its Implementation in Midsize Organizations. Since there is a big gap in the formalized understanding of new terminologies like talent management, it may be worthwhile to create a standardized definition of 'talent management' after researching all available material on this subject. Evolving a workable methodology that helps organizations collect employee data and analyze it in a manner to identify hidden 'talent' and groom it for individual and organizational growth is essential.

In my opinion, it is a vast subject, somewhat controversial at present, since different HR experts have defined it differently, and there is no collective understanding about the technology dimension of an 'approach to talent identification and development'.

Col.,

Your suggested subject sounds really interesting. However, my apprehension is, will a researcher get all the inputs he/she requires from the corporates? Will his/her guide proactively support such a subject? I doubt it very much. It might depend on the final decision of the university and/or the guide. If you could also suggest some background materials and published papers on the subject, it would be helpful to the ambitious youngster.

Hi Prince Chawla, as I mentioned in the above post, please think quietly and follow your heart. Ask yourself these questions: Why do I want to do a PhD? What are my strengths? Who will be my guide? Do I have the time and resources? After getting a PhD, what do I expect to become? How are the present doctorate degree holders placed as of today?

Add as many questions as possible to gain clarity. To the best of my knowledge, the topic has to be chosen by you or your guide.

Hello, I want to pursue a Ph.D. in HR. I am an MBA graduate with over 7 years of experience in recruitment. I wanted to know if there is any specialization in recruitment in a Ph.D. program. I am interested in specializing in recruitment. If it is not available, could you suggest other areas for me to consider? Also, please recommend some good institutes for a Ph.D. in HR.
