First of all, Hi to every member of this site. They are doing a fantastic job here, not only providing knowledge but also creating a chain of information. This is my 1st post here, and I hope to receive a positive response from all of you. My question is, what is the difference between Hiring and Recruitment?

Thanks,
Avinash

Hiring is the process of allocating jobs from various employers to registered applicants at a union-operated placement center, following a specific order. This hiring typically occurs internally within the organization.

Recruitment, on the other hand, involves searching for candidates for employment and encouraging them to apply for positions within a company, regardless of the industry - whether it be IT, ITES, BPO, KPO, retail, airline, banking, etc. :)

Hi!

Let us first understand what recruitment is:

Recruitment refers to the process of sourcing, screening, and selecting people for a job or vacancy within an organization. From posting the advertisement for a vacancy to collecting the appropriate CVs or sometimes even conducting interviews, it is a recruitment process. The main purpose is to attract competent applicants to apply for a given vacancy. Hiring may be referred to as the end result, i.e., the person is finally brought into the organization after the selection process. So, recruitment may be referred to as a pre-process of selection and hiring.

Cheers! Shringarika

Dear Avinash,

From a practical HR perspective, both are the same. Do not get caught up in semantics and allow yourself to fall into the trap of language. Leave that to the PhDs. However, if there is a specific situation, please feel free to reach out again.

Selection is not the last step of recruitment. Selection, in other words, choosing the right person for the right job, is a critical mid-step of the process. It ends at making an offer. Then, you hire him when he joins.

Recruitment is the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating and encouraging them to apply for jobs in the organization. It is a positive process because it encourages individuals to apply, providing the company with a wider choice in selecting candidates. On the other hand, hiring means when you have decided to appoint a suitable candidate after going through the selection process.

Difference between - Recruitment / Selection / Hiring
Example:
Recruitment - Looking for a mode of transport to reach destination - Mode of selection
Selection - Selecting particular mode of transport by evaluating the comfort and safety - Right Person for Right Job
Hiring – Agreement with the CAB (if mode of transport is a car) in terms of job & compensation - Mutual acceptance both employer and employee.
