My name is Raja, and I am an IT professional needing to discuss a concern with you. I appreciate your response on the same.

Background and Current Situation

In 2010, I had two years of experience (4 months with the previous employer and the rest with the current employer). Then, I received an offer from Wipro Infotech. After resigning from my current company, I was contacted by Wipro HR, who informed me that they were not satisfied with the background check from my previous company. Consequently, I decided to continue working in my current company.

Current Employment Scenario

This year, I received an offer from a big IT company, an MNC. I did not include my experience from the previous employer, which was the issue with Wipro's background check. Instead, I only presented my current employment, where I have been for over 6 years.

Concerns About Blacklisting

A friend mentioned that if Wipro has blacklisted me, it could affect my chances of employment at other big IT MNCs. Do I potentially face any problems due to Wipro advising me not to join in 2010? Could they have blacklisted me and shared this information with other companies?

Understanding Background Check (BGV)

Background Check or Background Verification (BGV) is conducted to verify if the facts and figures you provided to the company align with reality. Was there anything you presented that was not accurate? This can include anything from your work profile to your salary. Any incorrect data shared by you is considered non-compliance as per BGV.

Handling Discrepancies in BGV

If a big IT MNC conducts a BGV and discovers that you worked for a firm but did not include it in your profile, what will you do? If Wipro has blacklisted you and shared the data, only Wipro can provide an answer to this.

The right approach is to ensure that accurate information is shared and the correct documents are provided.

Blacklisting on NASSCOM is only for those who joined and left without motive, without completing handover or where the employment was terminated on account of fraud or fake data that showed up in a BVG.

The likelihood of Wipro posting a blacklist in NASSCOM for unclear BVG of someone who was not finally offered a job is low. You can always try and see. What do you lose?

Hello Raja,

As Saswata Banerjee mentioned, the likelihood of Wipro posting a blacklist in NASSCOM in cases like yours is remote. The possibility of sharing BVG results between companies is also unlikely.

Usually, any sharing of records with NASSCOM is in the context of employees leaving the services improperly (absconding being one such reason) or those who joined and then failed the BVG.

Clarification on Background Verification Concerns

What exactly was not okay in the background verification about the previous check? There are always small companies that come up and equally quickly wind up. But if you have worked with such a small outfit, it really does not make your employment not okay. However, as learned members above have opined, there is no point in having unnecessary fears of Nasscom, etc., unless there is something more to your query that is not disclosed.

Perhaps you can have someone check with NASSCOM as to whether there is any negative notes in the national skill registry against your name ..... That will allow your mind to rest in peace
