My name is Mr. Hemant, and I have recently joined a manufacturing company near Mumbai. I have been advised by my seniors to conduct thorough research on the Contract Labor Act of 1970. Could anyone please guide me on which books I should refer to in order to accomplish my task and enhance my knowledge of the Contract Labor Regulation and Abolition Act of 1970?

My suggestion would be the book titled "Commentaries on the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970" by Shri K.D. Srivatsava. In addition to reading the above book, going through the entire texts of Supreme Court's judgments of the important cases would give the reader a thorough understanding of the system of contract labour from both the perspectives of the employer and contract labour.

Research is never based on one or two books. This requires self-imagination and deep thought on the issues included in a particular topic, aims, and objects of research. Self-questioning on such issues, study of several peer-reviewed literatures to be aware of the views of prominent authors, preparing research questions based on the problems being faced by the organization, and studying the issues pertaining to those problems. Preparation of questionnaires for a general survey of some selected population or to conduct interviews with some prominent authorities to gather their views on such questionnaires to ultimately come to some strategic findings of the researcher.
By the way, what is your profile in the manufacturing concern, and with what aim and object have you been asked to conduct research? Aimless research cannot lead to solving specific issues or problems faced by the organization.
