I seek advice. I was appointed by HCL Infra for their Chennai location from a different city through a consultancy. All my interviews were held on a single day, and they were conducted face-to-face by HCL HR directly. I received the Offer Letter from HCL via email. They asked me to complete all the BGV (Background Verification) formalities online, which I did in May 2014. They gave me a joining date of 30th June 2014, and I joined the company on that day.
After working there for 15-20 days, the HR person informed me that I might need to leave the company because my graduation was not from a UGC-recognized college. Before joining, I had taken an email confirmation from the HR confirming that my graduation was acceptable. I provided my college name, diploma name, and mode of education in the email, and the HR confirmed that my graduation was fine, which is why I joined. However, another HR partner stated that the HR person wasn't supposed to have that information and suggested I shouldn't blame HR.
They informed me that they forwarded my request to the BGV Council, and if an exception was made, I could continue working with HCL; otherwise, I might have to leave, and the process could take any number of days. Due to the job insecurity, I voluntarily resigned.
I would like to ask if I can file a complaint against the company and seek compensation. I have an email from the company's HR confirming that my college, diploma, and mode of education are acceptable and that I could join based on that information.

The company will follow the mandated rules they have set regarding the educational background check. If the university is not recognized by the AICTE body or UGC grant commission, the education verification will be marked as red. You should wait for the response to come from the BGV council of your company.
